Curtin Juniors Points System

Curtin uses a program called CentPak, which accumulates points for each athlete over the season for each event they have competed in.

100points is the highest amount of points that can be achieved in any one event. Equaling or bettering the current record held at Southern districts in that event does this. At the lower end of the point scale one point is measured in a race by being exactly 50% slower then the record.

An example is the under 8 boys 100metres race record is 14.8 seconds, so if that was equaled or bettered the child would get 100points for the event. If the child got 22.20 secs which is 50% slower then the record the child would get one point for the event and if the child got some where in between the two times the points would be given on a sliding scale between the 1point and 100points which is worked out by the computer. This is the way it’s done for all track events sprints, hurdles, middle distance and walks.

The Field events are very similar with the one point starting 50% below the field record an example is the girls under 12 Long jump record is 4.98metres and if a child achieved or bettered that in competition they would be given 100points. 50% below the record is 2.49metres and this is the distance one point would start. This is the way it is done in all field events throws and jumps.

Because the under16 and under 17 athletes have only been competing a small amount of years in little athletics compared with the other age groups the majority of records have not outdone the younger age groups. We all know in years to come this will change but at the moment the 100points in a lot of cases have to start from  false records, which must be faster or further then the years previous to it. In the case of the implements being used of a different weight or the distances being different in a race the records are the originals. Example a 5-kilo shot put is only thrown by the 17 boys and also the 110metre hurdles.
